The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced the 2023-24 Academic team and individual awards.Local athletic standouts Aubree Saporito and Mia Sarwinski are two of 71 athletes and members of the Lady Roughriders Softball Team to earn a spot on the list of awards.

The Columbus Babe Ruth 13-16 year-old baseball team ended their summer season at the Kansas Babe Ruth 13-16 year-old State Tournament, Saturday and Sunday in Frontenac.Columbus opened the tournament, Saturday at noon in Game 3 of the round-robin bracket.

The Columbus Cal Ripken 12U All-Stars earned the sportsmanship award at the Kansas Cal Ripken State Tournament, July 12-14, at the Columbus Community Field Ball Park. The local all-stars were also the Kansas State Runner-up in the tournament, winning three of their four games.

The Columbus Cal Ripken 8 and under All-Stars wrapped up their season at the Kansas Cal Ripken 8U Rookies State Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, at the Columbus Community Field Ball Park.Although the team came up short, they played well and gained valuable experience.

The Columbus 13-16 year-old Babe Ruth Baseball Team will be playing in the Kansas Babe Ruth 13-16 year-old State Tournament, Saturday and Sunday in Frontenac.Events begin with the coaches and officials meeting, today at 3 p.m. followed by the picnic for players, coaches, and officials at 4:30 p.m.

The Columbus Cal Ripken League is hosting the Kansas 8U (Rookie) State Tournament, tomorrow and Sunday at the Community Field Ball Park on South Kansas Avenue.The tournament will utilize Rockette Field, the north west diamond in the park, for all six or seven games of the event.
