After having to make changes to last year’s Festa Italiana event amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the community is preparing to bring back the traditional celebration of Frontenac’s Italian cultural heritage this weekend. Gates open for this year’s event at 4:45 p.m.

In an effort to make the city of Baxter Springs look welcoming to fall visitors, the women of the Baxter Springs P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) instituted a contest for local businesses. Many businesses took part in the contest displaying arrangements of fall décor.

Getting a calf on the ground is one thing to be thankful for. Keeping them healthy through all mother nature throws at them is a completely different battle. From birth to weaning, there are many health factors that affect calves. Knowing how to handle them all can be a challenge.

One of the balloons that will be taking flight over Columbus (weather permitting) will be Venus, piloted by Janine Konstanzer from Wichita.

The 2021 Little Mr. and Miss Columbus will be crowned the evening of October 8, on the Cherokee County courthouse steps around 5:30 p.m. during the Columbus Day Festival Bean Feed, sponsored by Commerce Bank. Labette Bank is handling the Little Mr. and Miss Columbus crowning.
