Behind our labor

As the Labor Day weekend passes and we fall into a new month’s rhythm and routine, now is a great time to reflect on our work.
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.” -2 Peter 1:5-7

Building character

While we are created in the image of God and “may participate in the divine nature,” we are not born with character. Character is developed by inculcating habits. If we were blessed to have good and wise parents, they probably did their best to inculcate good habits from a young age.
“Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.” Romans 12:16 NIV

Only human

We are finite and flawed beings, all of us, and while this may seem like something negative it is the basis, or should be the basis, for our compassion for our fellow creatures, all of whom, like us, need help. Will we sin today? Of course. Will we neglect to do certain things which we should do?

We are God’s co-workers

How wonderful it is to think that we are working with God to make this a better world and to show others the love of God through our work. It is also encouraging to know that God is always with us.Family, friends and your colleagues at work may abandon you, but God never will.
