The Baxter Springs Girl Scouts received a helping hand from American Bank as the bank purchased several cases of Girl Scout Cookies which had gone unsold. The girls then delivered the cookies to the Baxter Springs Police Department as a thank-you to the men and women in the department. American Bank vice-president Judy Hill was joined by Girl Scouts Kinley Capps and Sutton Russell as they presented the cookies to Police Chief Brian Henderson, and officers Jimmy Hamilton and Rhanda Andrews.
Youngsters and staff from Good Shepard Day Care took a field trip to the Columbus Museum recently. Tour guides Doris Richardson and Athena McColm entertained the youngsters with educational information about the various displays and exhibits.
Former County 4-H Agent Martha Flanagan displays a quilt with the help of Art Roberts which has a farming theme. The quilt will be given away at the end of the Fair to the lucky ticket holder. Flanagan made the quilt specifically as a fund raiser for the Cherokee County Democrat Central Committee.
Columbus Firefighter Dylan Koehler accepted a $500 donation from American Legion Commander Aron Davolt at a recent Legion meeting. The donation will be used to help support the upcoming Freedom Fest celebration July 8.
Throughout the month of June, the celebration tree at the Columbus Museum has been dedicated to Fathers. Hats, ties and belts adorn the tree. Stop by the museum and see what July will showcase.
Columbus Public Library Board met June 12. The meeting was called to order at 5:40 p.m. by President Curtis Wheatley. Also present were board members: Becky Glover, Jessica Rider, Maggie Mooney, and Shari Napier. Library staff members present were Lauren Dainty and Trish Windsor.
