Scrapbookers return to St. Bridget’s for conference

It was a scrapbook wonderland at the tenth St. Bridgett’s “Holy Scrapers” mini convention at Scammon’s St. Bridgett’s Catholic Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday July 10. In addition to scrapbook making there were also some quilters trading their secrets with others.

Columbus holds code enforcement meet

Discussing the building codes about to be enforced in the City of Columbus Police Chief Jason Daniels said the plan is to implement the new enforcement procedures in a slow and orderly manner. Code Enforcement Officer Gary Holt talked with the contractors, noting he would be working with them.

Columbus residents graduate from MSU

Missouri State University held spring 2021 commencement ceremonies May 13-14. The following local students earned degrees: Gavin Bohn of Columbus graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Digital Film and Television Production, Summa Cum Laude.

Eagles Club to host Christmas in July dinner

Christmas in July Sunday July 25 at the West Mineral Eagles lunch will begin at 1 p.m. They will be serving Turkey, ham and all the fixins for a $10 donation per plate. Covered dishes welcome. All proceeds will go to Christmas baskets. A dessert auction will be held.

SKIL to celebrate signing of Americans with Disablilities Act

The SKIL Resource Center will honor the lives of people with disabilities on July 27, when it will hold its annual public celebration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The public is invited.

Donations aid in purchase of new slide

The City of Baxter Springs was able to purchase and install a slide for the new city pool after an outpouring of donations. Various donors, mostly anonymous, have been donating to the slide fund since the new pool opened this year.

Columbus library monthly board meeting held

The Columbus Public Library meeting was called to order by President Curtis Wheatley at 6:03 p.m. Board members also present were: Maggie Mooney, Kelly Walters, Becky Shearburn and Becky Glover. Staff members present were Lauren Chesner-Dainty and Trish Windsor.

Cherokee County 4-H announces royalty candidates

Royalty candidates have been selected by the 4-H Clubs in Cherokee County. There are no candidates from Prairie Ramblers Club this year. Lone Elm Beavers has selected only a queen candidate. Lone Elm Beavers Queen Candidate, Hannah Helwig, 13, is the President of her 4-H Club.

Five active clubs in community

Cherokee County has five community clubs at the present time. Shamrock was chartered in 1947. Current leaders of the club are Michele Hamilton and Scott Pritchett. Spring Valley Sparklers was chartered in 1948 and their leaders are Raven Elmore, Ragena Duling and Josie Welch.
