Kristin Lee Caddick, 25, was arrested Tuesday by Galena Police officers on charges of domestic battery; physical contact in rude manner and was released on $750 bail. John Thomas Dickinson, 42, was arrested Tuesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of unlawful registration, fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, possess opiates, opium, narcotic drug or certain stimulant, use or possess paraphernalia with intent to cultivate controlled substance, unlawful cultivation or distribution of controlled substances and possession of certain hallucinogenic drugs and is being held in lieu of $30,800 bail.

Galena student recognized for artwork

A Galena seventh grade student has been named a merit winner in the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest. Dakota Bennett is one of 23 artists selected from more than 600,000 participants worldwide from over 50 countries, as a merit winner in the 33rd annual contest.

Members of the Connecting Point Church

Members of the Connecting Point Church were busy repairing their youth center building on West Maple on Monday evening. The former church building had been damaged by water from broken water pipes during the recent below zero weather. Bryan Shelton was working on the wall insulation and plumbing. Several areas of the building had to have the sheet-rock and insulation removed and replaced.

Top-dressing wheat with nitrogen’s amigos: chloride, sulfur

The need for nitrogen in wheat is well known, but sulfur and chloride deficiencies are more common in than many farmers realize. Sulfur deficiency looks a lot like nitrogen deficiency and chloride deficiency looks just like a fungal disease, which is if either can be seen at all. While commonly associated with sandy soils, sulfur and chloride deficiency is possible in our heavy clay soils. No-till fields tend to have more trouble with sulfur as well.

Area Accident Report

A car vs. deer accident occurred February 16 at approximately 6:52 p.m. A 2008 Ford Taurus driven by Paula Dennis, 57, Joplin, Mo., was traveling east on Southeast KS-66. Dennis struck a deer in the roadway near Southeast 90th Street. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated.
