Book group invites readers to attend

The book discussion group associated with the Columbus Public Library will meet Wednesday, June 30 at 9:15 a.m. in the community building located across from the water works on North Kansas Street in Columbus. This month’s book choice is “The Lost Girls of Paris” written by Pam Jenoff.

A Galena fisherman recently won first place and $50,000 in the Big Bass Bash held on Grand Lake in Oklahoma. Weston Taconis, 27 and his friend Damon Simmons were fishing in an area just south of Monkey Island when Taconis landed his catch. He weighed in his 5.96 pound bass at Southwinds Marina.

The soldier care boxes

The soldier care boxes this month were sponsored by Laureate Gamma Iota chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Sorority member Nancy Evans holds two of the boxes. Items in the boxes were provided by the Girl Scouts and students at Central Junior High School.

Kelli Weaver, Baxter Springs resident and member of the Wisconsin Ho-Chunk Nation, visited Johnston Public Library on Thursday morning. Mrs. Weaver discussed Native American tribes, traditions, and powwow regalia. The free children’s program was part of the “Tails and Tales” Summer Reading Program.

The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 p.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursdays 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Wednesdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. By appointment only. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-noon. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon.
