Book group to meet May 20

“Page Turners” the book discussion group, a facet of the Columbus Public Library, will meet Monday, May 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Hospitality Center on North Kansas Street.Those attending will discuss “Three Sisters” written by Heather Morris.

Columbus High School Titan band performs Spring Concert

The Columbus Titan Band spring concert was held May 7 in the CUHS auditorium. Five pieces were performed including Ascent To The Summit by Tara Islas highlighting the CUHS Brass Choir. Other pieces were Choose Joy, This Cruel Moon, Mountain Dance and Clowns.

Welch Round-Up Club Junior Rodeo

Welch Round-Up Club Junior Rodeo Series wrapped up the season recently. Over 100 kids participated in this years events. Each participant received a leather jacket and a pack full of horse accessories.

Pie, cake contest at Cowtown Days

P.E.O. Chapter BT of Baxter Springs is sponsoring a pie and cake contest and auction at Cowtown Days May 4 on the library grounds. All area bakers are invited to enter the contest.There is a junior division for 10-18 year olds and an adult division.

Baxter PEO hears about Finland trip

.A special presentation on Finland was given to the P.E.O. Chapter BT of Baxter Springs at their April 15 meeting in Baxter Springs.Vicki O’Neal and her husband Larry traveled to see the Northern Lights. Vicki O’Neal shared their experiences from the trip accompanied by a display of photographs.

Baxter FUMC to hold spoon burger fundraiser

A special lunch and bake sale sponsored by the Baxter Springs First United Methodist Church’s United Methodist Women, will be held May 3 from 11 a.m.2 p.m.A menu of spoon burgers, chips, cookie and drink will be offered for a suggested $8 donation.
