Riverton man sentenced

In a plea bargain Monday, John D. Naugle II, 44, Riverton pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm and possessing a controlled substance. Under the terms of the plea bargain, each count would incur a four-year suspended sentence.

RHS honor rolls announced

Riverton High School has announced the honor rolls for the first quarter. Those named to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll, students making a 4.0004.

USD 247 recognizes six board members

January is School Board Recognition Month. USD 247 Board members meet at least once a month, between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and staying until the job is done; serving as education advocates.

Baxter seventh, eighth honor rolls announced

Baxter Springs seventh and eighth grades have released their honor rolls. Those making the eighth grade All A’s Honor Roll include Jadynn Brandon, Henry Bresee, Weston Buck, Emma Holbert, Oliver Kerr, Faith Murray, Jada Palmer, Cole Parrish, Maliah Thomas and Elliott Zanatta.

Cherokee County 4-H

Cherokee County 4-H hosted a Prom Dress Resale event over the weekend. Despite frigid temperatures, volunteers turned out to help customers choose the perfect dress for upcoming formal events.

Black Diamond Lodge biscuit, gravy breakfast

A biscuits and gravy breakfast will be held Saturday, January 20 at the Black Diamond Lodge #274. Also included will be a choice of coffee, juice or water. Serving time begins at 7 a.m. and will continue until 11 a.m. Cost is $8 per person. The Lodge is located at 107 West Main in Weir.

Top four books of 2023 selected by Amazon

In the December column, I wrote that Amazon had selected the top four books for 2023; the choices were revealed on “CBS Mornings” televised program. The number one selection was “The Heaven and Earth Grocery store” written by James McBride.

Gracie Hall

Gracie Hall and Emma Walker were available to help shoppers choose the perfect dress at the 4-H Prom Dress Resale event held over the weekend. The group has extended the sale to February 10 from noon - 3 p.m. Drop off dresses at 11 a.m.
