Winners announced in Freedom Fest 5K, kids fun run

The top three runners in the male 19 and under division at the Freedom Fest 5K were Kable Reichardt, 22:58. Levi Simpson, 25:26 and Trent Lacen, 27:52.

Going away reception held for FCS agent Christina Holmes

Charles and Nancy Herrenbruck bid farewell to Family and Consumer Science agent Christina Holmes at a reception held Thursday. Holmes is leaving her position with Cherokee County Extension to become the Regional FCS Specialist. She will be based out of the Parsons office.

Chapter V, PEO holds wine, cheese night

A wine and cheese social event was held by Chapter V, Columbus PEO at the Smittle House July 7. Thirteen members and seven guests attended. Two of the guests, Amenda and Sophia Lacy were here visiting from Arkansas.

Democrats to meet Thursday

The Cherokee Democrats will hold their monthly meeting July 14, at the Galena Community room in the City Hall. The meeting will begin 6 p.m. to accommodate those who would like to be home to watch January 6 hearing. Fair plans will be finalized. The group will be handing out tickets for a drawing.

Messer family has annual reunion

A covered dish dinner was held for the annual Messer family reunion June 26 at the Columbus 4-H building. There were 34 in attendance.

Happy Anniversary To The Best Wife In The World

Sixty four years ago today I married the Best Wife there ever was. She drove those old junk trucks of ours hauling hay and grain in 100 degree weather with no air conditioners and also cooked at the high school for 20 years to help put us where we are today. Thanks a bunch LaDonna Smith Love Dewey
