Navy vet speaks at local program

Following the annual Veteran’s Day Parade, a program honoring veterans was presented at the Veteran’s Memorial on the American Bank’s parking lot.

Jazz show this weekend at CHS

A novelty music review titled “What a Feeling” will be presented by the Titan Jazz Band on the evenings of November 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. in the Columbus Unified High School Auditorium.The public is invited to enjoy music and skits from the 1980’s. Admission is $5.

Holiday Market planned

Columbus High School Technology and Engineering students have worked hard to put together their largest Holiday Market yet.With nearly 40 vendors, kids or pets pictures with Santa, along with Brownie Sundaes prepared by CUHS Culinary classes.

Football contest winners

The football contest is ending as it began, with the Eddington and the Bass families taking the prize money.Earl Eddington won first place missing just one game while Carolyn Eddington also missed one game but a different game for second place.

Casino drops in revenue

A large decrease in revenue at Kansas Crossing Casino in Pittsburg led to a major drop in Cherokee County’s share of the casino’s income. The county received $32,375.50 for their share in October 2025. Last year in October 2024 they received $35,888.39, amounting to $3,512.

City utility billing system operational

Significant progress has been made by the City of Columbus staff in restoring the utility billing and financial computer systems.“We are happy to report we were able to successfully process the November utility bills in our system on Friday afternoon,” City Administrator Jake Letner said.

Using heat capacity of soil, water

Soil, along with many other uses, acts as a powerful moderator of temperature and climate. Volumetric heat capacity is the energy required to change the temperature of a substance. Soil and water have fairly high heat capacities.

Mercy Auxiliary gets new member

Discussion of the recent booth at the Columbus Day Festival was discussed by members of Mercy Auxiliary at the October 21 meeting. A new member, Michelle Mosler, was welcomed to the group.The meeting was called to Order by President Brenda Barret. Nineteen members were present.
