Big Brutus becomes camping destination

More than 800 campers and various assorted off-road vehicles were encamped at the Big Brutus this past weekend. Coming from all over the United States, campers spend a relaxing get away for a few days in the shadow of Cherokee County’s giant shovel.

Football contest winners

For the first time in recent memory, a couple took first and second in the football contest.Carolyn Eddington took first and husband Earl placed second place. Carolyn missed only Uniontown and Columbus while Earl missed Uniontown and Anderson County.

Land Bank to discuss property tax purchases

Local properties will be discussed at the Columbus City Land Bank meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the City Hall. The board will also discuss the possible purchase of properties for sale in the upcoming delinquent property tax sale now being prepared by the county.

Sheriff’s Department cancels missing teen

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s office report that a 16-year-old Scammon girl was missing, was cancelled Friday.The missing persons report of Makenzie Kepka, indicated she had been missing since September 15 when she told her famiaround ly she was going for a walk and did not come back home.

County counselor Conard resigns

County Counselor Jake Conard gave notice to the County Commission on Monday that he would be resigning when a replacement could be found.He became the Commissioners Counselor in September of 2023 and will be returning to private practice.

The Ford pick-up truck loaded with 840 pounds of groceries, collected by Mike Carpino Ford was delivered to the Columbus United Methodist Church food pantry after two weeks of collection. Those with the truck include on the left side Nancy Evans, Sharon Draeger, Sue McKenzie and Robbie Carpino. On the right-side, Jamie Huston, Jay Wary, Hannah Carpino and Anita Davolt.
