Local food grant ended by DOGE

In April of 2024 local officials were made aware of a million dollar Environmental Protection Agency grant application that had been submitted by KDHE Performance Improvement Director Jade M. Ramsdell.This grant is a partnership between several nonprofits, KDHE and Kansas University.

Casino income is higher in May

The Kansas Crossing Casino reported a revenue in May of $3,711,692 which is an increase over both last month and last may of last year.In April the casino revenue was $3,485,196 and in May of 2024 it was $3,547,571.

District 11 nominating committee meets

The 11th Judicial District Nominating Commission convened by conference call at 3 p.m. Tuesday, to review applications and set the interview schedule to fill a district judge vacancy.
Members of the Cherokee County 4-H Clubs held a spaghetti lunch to raise funds for improvements to their local building. The youth helped prepare and serve the lunch to area diners. Keith and Helen Kelly were among the diners supporting area youth.

An example of woodworking projects was shared at the recent Chapter BT of P.E.O. International meeting.Members and their guests met at the Gentlemen of the Woods Shop in Baxter Springs at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 27.
