District 11 judge nominations sought

The 11th Judicial District Nominating Commission is seeking nominations to fill a district judge vacancy.This vacancy was created when Judge Lori Bolton Fleming was appointed to the Kansas Court of Appeals.The 11th Judicial District is composed of Cherokee, Crawford, and Labette counties.

USD 493 Board makes personnel changes at meeting

At their regular monthly meeting the Columbus USD 493 Board of Education accepted the resignations of Nicki Strickland as High School Counselor, Heather Depratt as Central Paraprofessional and the retirement resignation of Kim Carpino as High School Librarian at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
This year there were 15 members of the Columbus FFA receiving the Greenhand Degree for which they were presented a certificate along with a bronze pin which symbolizes strength and durability. This year’s recipients are Kaden Crafton, Kaden Thiele, Addison Cook, Grace Eshelman, Elle Thompson, Isaac Johnson, Alex Thomas, Madalyn Coons, Kenzie McCormick, Breanna Wiseman, Chase Pelt, Alex Welch, Madison Duling, RuthAnn Reynolds and Izabel Manus

Kyle Wayne Myers, 47, was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of criminal damage to property and is being held without bail.Alexandria Renee Kloer, 28, was admitted to the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center Wednesday on a court ordered commitment.
