Smith scholarships awarded

Over the past nine years, Columbus First United Methodist Church has presented $37,950 in scholarships. These scholarships were made possible through the generosity of Starr and Eugenia Smith, who were interested in young people and their education.

I read the book of Rez Dogs by Joseph Bruchac which caught my eye as I was reading it because I enjoyed how her grandmother sang a song of thanks from their tribe. In the story, the protagonist Malian is visiting her grandparent’s house on a Native American reservation when Covid-19 hits.

Imagine getting married at the age of 13 and getting shipped there with random people. This idea really made me curious. After I read Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan, I became even more interested in Indian culture.

The Labette Bank Golden Adventure Club recently traveled to Branson, Mo. to attend the inspiring musical David at the Sight & Sound Theatre. Before the per- formance, club members enjoyed a delicious plated lunch at McFarlain’s Restaurant and spent time shopping at the Tanger Outlets.
