Columbus dissolves planning commission

In what can only be labeled a surprise action the Columbus City Council disbanded the City Planning Commission and rejected the proposed comprehensive plan. The planning commission had worked for some time on the comprehensive plan before it was presented to the council for approval Monday night.
Baxter Springs sophomore Andrew Low placed first. Second place went to Riverton High School student Karlee Mcphail. Third place was won by Kassidy Kell, she also received the People’s Choice award. Fourth place went to another Riverton High School student Ginny Elliott.

In announcing the appointment of Judge Lori Bolton-Fleming to the Kansas Court of Appeals, Governor Laura Kelly said, “Her extensive legal career, commitment to public service, and strong reputation will make her an excellent Court of Appeals Judge.
A public open house to discuss safe streets for all was held Thursday afternoon in the Extension Office meeting room. The meeting was held to gain information on the most dangerous place to drive in the county. Shawn Turner, with Trans-Systems, is discussing those areas with Cherokee County Sheriff Brian Henderson.
