Editors Note: Several years ago Columbus News-Report columnist Homer Bristow jotted down the high points of the Cherokee County Fair and Reunion from his unique memory bank. Bristow’s death in January 2013 ended the popular “Just Thinkin’” column of the lifelong Columbus area resident.

The Girls Next Door, a trio of ladies from Kansas City, will lead off the entertainment at the Cherokee County Fair. They will take the stage Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. Their style is a bit of Rock and Roll and a bit of Country music. Angie Larson, Barbara Walker and Jamie Malone make up the group.

Thursday night’s fair entertainment will be provided by Phil Vandel. Vandel (pronounced like Vandal or Candle) has traveled the world with his music and continues to bring his powerful, unique style of singing, songwriting, and guitar playing to audiences around the globe at 150-200 shows per year.

Pedal tractor pull Tuesday night

A Pedal Tractor Pull will be held Tuesday July 26 in front of the Lions Snack Shack on Country Road. Rain or Shine. This annual event, sponsored by Cherokee County Farm Bureau Association, is open to boys and girls between the ages of four and 12 years old. Registration will be held from 5:30 p.m.

Rules, regulations for open class entries

Open Class Entries All Classes and departments are open to entries from all counties and stated as open, except 4-H and F.F.A. Department. The exceptions for these departments are listed in the rules under the specific departments. All Open Livestock Entries Livestock must be in place by 12 p.m.
