LCC hosts student awards ceremony

Labette Community College hosted the annual Student Awards Ceremony, Thursday May 28, in the Thiebaud Theatre. Students were honored for achievements in academic, athletic, and club participation.

Columbus Bass Club travels to Wilson County

After leaving town, the Columbus Bass Club held a classic tournament earlier this month. A total of five teams left from Columbus Bait and Tackle and headed across the state to fish at the Wilson County State Fishing Lake on May 14.

Retracing the trip

Retracing the trip of their forefathers, three men hitched up their teams of mules, leaving Baxter Springs Wednesday, after the rain, they headed for Fort Scott’s Old Timer Days parade.

McCune memorial dedicated Saturday

The re-dedication of the McCune GAR (Grand Army of the Republic memorial in the McCune Cemetery on Saturday drew a large crowd. The dedication was made by Major Cortenney Neblett, U.S. Air Force, a registered nurse.

Aggravated assault arrest made by CKSO

On May 28 Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported dispute, which had occurred at a home outside of Baxter Springs.
