Labette Community College hosted the annual Student Awards Ceremony, Thursday May 28, in the Thiebaud Theatre. Students were honored for achievements in academic, athletic, and club participation.

Retracing the trip of their forefathers, three men hitched up their teams of mules, leaving Baxter Springs Wednesday, after the rain, they headed for Fort Scott’s Old Timer Days parade.

Wheat harvest 2-weeks behind

The wheat harvest is about two weeks behind normal due to rainy and wet conditions, according to Matt Case at the Farmer’s Coop in Columbus. “We are usually looking at the first two weeks of June to begin harvest, the rain has pushed that back about two weeks,” said Case.

McCune memorial dedicated Saturday

The re-dedication of the McCune GAR (Grand Army of the Republic memorial in the McCune Cemetery on Saturday drew a large crowd. The dedication was made by Major Cortenney Neblett, U.S. Air Force, a registered nurse.
