Cherokee County Commissioners March 7 meeting minutes

Chairman Cory Moates called the regular session of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners (The Board), to order at 9 a.m. Monday, March 7, in the Commission Room, #109 of the Cherokee County Courthouse located at 1 10 W Maple St., Columbus, Kansas.

Cherokee County Jail Report

John Wesley Potter, 34, was arrested Monday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of theft of property or services and criminal damage to property and is being held in lieu of $13,000 bail.

Glittering Stones hold monthly club meeting

The March 6, meeting of the Glittering Stones 4-H Club was called to order by President Kaylynn Brown at 4:03 p.m. in the Columbus 4-H building. The meeting was started with the pledges and roll call “A fact about the month of March”.

LCC makes changes after survey

Labette Community College has been implementing campus wide changes to ensure student success, encourage retention, and enhance the college experience for students. The college formed a Strategic Enrollment Management committee made of constituents campus-wide.

Chamber talks upcoming events

New and exciting updates have been approved by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Board of directors during their March 9 meeting. Members of the board met in the community building to discuss updates to Columbus Days and a number of other important dates.

County EM director Allison resigns post

Following an impressive, 19 year service record, Cherokee County Emergency Management Director Jason Allison will be exiting his position at the end of the month. Allison tendered his resignation during the March 14 County Commissioners meeting.

Special speaker at genealogy meeting

A special program covering ways to save pictures taken with a cell phone will be held at the March 22, meeting of the Cherokee County Genealogical-Historical Society. Though it appears everyone is carrying a camera, and taking hundreds of pictures, they can easily be lost without proper handling.
