The Columbus Public Library Board meeting was held February 14. The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by President Curtis Wheatley. Also present were board members: Becky Shearburn, Becky Glover, Kelly Walters, Jessica Rider, and Linda Griffitt.

Numerous times when we’ve driven to Colorado on I-70, I have noticed the road sign for Nicodemus, Kansas. The small town is located northeast of WaKeeney. I knew it was originally settled as an allblack community, but we have never taken the time to check out the historical site.

Davis, Natalini, Weber first in Bulldog Classic

The Columbus Wrestling Club sent nine wrestlers to the Bulldog Classic in Independence, February 13. Kai Davis, Lucas Natalini, and William Weber all brought home first place hardware in their respective weight classes.

4-H Days brings out varied competition

A massive display of talent occurred Saturdy in the Cherokee County 4-H building in Columbus on February 19. Nearly 20 youths competed for the opportunities to advance to the regional competition in early March.

A truly terrific time was recently had by loads of locals during the Center Christian Church’s 24th annual Chili Feed event in Columbus. Following a meal, entertainment took center stage as comedian and magician Mike Bliss performed on February 20.

Give local merchants a chance to show what they have. You are not only supporting a business, but you are keeping Columbus alive. The sales tax dollars come back to the city to keep fire and police department in operation, improve streets, etc. If residents don’t support local businesses, who will?
