Lions donate to Advocacy Center

Unable to conduct their fund raisers in 2020 the Southeast Kansas Child Advocacy Center has suffered financially over the past two years. At a meeting this week they decided to look to community organizations and individuals for funding assistance.

Local youth complete Boys State

Young men from across the State of Kansas participated in the 2021 session of the American Legion Boys State of Kansas, held at Kansas State University in Manhattan. This was the 29th consecutive year the Kansas Boys State program was held at K-State.

County’s budget receives first aid

The largest single line item in the Cherokee County budget received a major decrease from their insurance administrator. Merritain Benefit Health Advisor, Brian Hiller, told the commissioners the health plan had a $450,000 decrease in medical claims in the year ending July 31, 2021.

Recycling trailer returns to Columbus location

The County has moved recycling trailer from Galena to Columbus to provide service to the Columbus community. Road Supervisor Cody Zook told the Commissioners Monday, Galena had contracted for their community, so he removed their county recycling bin that had been in Galena to Columbus.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Shana Rachelle Bridendolph, 35, was arrested Saturday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of criminal trespass and failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $1,000 bail.
