Eddington Park trail approved

Building a new walking track around Eddington Park was unanimously approved Monday night by the Columbus City Council. The project with an estimated value of nearly $500,000 will be build at no cost to the city.

Three arrested after rural home invasion

After receiving a report of a homeowner being assaulted during a home invasion, Cherokee County Sheriff deputies responded to a residence in the rural northeast part of the county on Monday evening.

Sheriff warns possible change in cannabis law

As the Kansas Legislature continues to work on a bill related to making cannabis (marijuana) legal either for medical purposes or for recreational use, Sheriff David Groves gave notice to the County Commission of a possible need for action on the potential problem.

Preparation underway for new public works

The demolition of the current Columbus City Public Works building was approved Monday night by the City Council. Preparation is being made to build the new structure on the same site. A contract was awarded to B-3 Construction in the amount of $2,700 to demolish the 30-foot by 50-foot structure.

Street closures okayed by Columbus Council

Blocking of two streets in the city was approved Monday night by the Columbus City Council. The CUHS Committee has received approval to block off Pine Street in front of State Theatre on the evening of Saturday April 17 for the 2021 Prom. The student walk-ins are from 8 p.m.-9 p.m.
