Carolyn Jean Mahurin, 61, of Baxter Springs, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at her home. Born February 9, 1962 in Joplin, Mo., Carolyn was the daughter of James and Lenora (Watson) Poteet. They preceded her in death. Carolyn had lived in the Galena, Picher and Baxter Springs, area all her life. She attended Picher – Cardin Schools in Picher, Okla. She worked for Autumn Place in Baxter Springs, area nursing homes and King Louie in Baxter Springs. Carolyn was a member of Highway Tabernacle in Quapaw, Okla.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Dennis Johnston of the home; sons, Donnie Mahurin (wife Delann) of Eucha, Okla. and Justin Mahurin (wife Alison) of Claremore, Okla.; and daughter Cassandra Whited (husband John) of Eucha, Okla. Her sisters, Brenda Fry of Baxter Springs and Judy Hartman of Joplin, Mo.; along with six grandchildren also survive.
Funeral service was held Monday, October 9, at Highway Tabernacle in Quapaw, Okla. Reverend Ray Clonts will officiate. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, southwest of Columbus. Larry Hartman, Johnathan Hartman, Ryan Nowlin, Coltin Sappington, Junior Grube, Josh Holden will serve as pallbearers. Jesse Mahurin and Carsson Mahurin will serve as honorary pallbearers.
