Alan R. Conard

Alan R. Conard, 73, of Chetopa, died at 8:20 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023. Born July 29, 1950 in Oswego, Alan was the son of Raymond Dean and Bonnie Lou (Hatfield) Conard. They preceded him in death. Alan was also preceded in death by a brother, Steven Dean Conard.

Alan grew up and attended school in rural Cherokee County. He was a graduate of Columbus Unified High School with the class of 1968.

Over the years, Alan was a dozer operator in the coal mines. He also farmed and raised pecans for many years. He was a member of the Eagles of West Mineral. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Alan enjoyed the river and especially catching fish in it. Alan also enjoyed hot rods and was an expert crossword puzzle solver.

Alan and Ann Addis were united in marriage in 1970. The couple later divorced.

Alan is survived by sons, Aaron Conard (Nichole) of rural Chetopa and Anthony Conard (Angie) of rural Columbus; and his sister, Cindi McElroy of Chetopa.

Five grandchildren: Laken McKinzie (Kasey); Riley Conard (Allison); Cambri Mosley (Tucker): Brali Conard (Wade) and Lilli Conard; seven great-grandchildren, Rhyker Conard-Johnson; Callie Conard; Rowdy Mosley; C.J. McKinzie; Dexon McKinzie; Carsyn Conard; and Clara Conard (on the way) also survive.

The graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 31 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
