A new Chief of Police was hired by the Baxter Springs City Council Tuesday night at a special meeting of the Council.
Baxter Springs Mayor Kelly Abbott appointed school resource officer Rick Comer as the new Baxter Springs Chief of Police following the resig-nation of the former chief Jimmy Hamilton on Friday. The City Council confirmed the appointment but also voted to advertise the position.
