Cathy J. (Crowell) Campbell, 64 of Oswego died September 17, 2023 in the comfort of her home in Oswego. Born April 7, 1959, in Garnett, Cathy was the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Beverly “Bev” (Moore) Crowell. They preceded her in death.
As a young girl, Cathy lived in Garnett, Iola, Yates Center and then started first grade in Chetopa. She graduated from Chetopa High School with the class of 1977. After high school, she attended Pittsburg State University, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in English Education in 1981 and a Master’s in Library Science from Emporia State University in 1991.
For four years, Cathy taught middle/high school English at Sylvan Grove followed by three years teaching middle school English at Sedgwick. Finally, she returned to Oswego to teach high school English and Literature for thirty-three years and taught dual credit classes for Labette Community College for thirty years.
Cathy was a member of Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Cathy enjoyed quilting, golfing, going to Tybee Island and watching the ships come in and going out with her friends. Most of all, she loved being a mother to her two children, Seth and Katelyn Campbell.
During these past two years her family has been appreciative of all the love and support from the community, family, and friends.
Cathy is survived by her son Seth Campbell of the home; daughter, Katelyn Campbell of the home; brother, David Crowell (Janet) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sisters, Theresa Kelly (Bart) of Bonner Springs, Patty Simmons (Ron) of Overland Park and Mary Karsetter (Roy) of Joplin, Mo. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. at Mother of God Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 21 at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa.
