James Walter Van Horn, 92, Baxter Springs

James Walter Van Horn, age 92, died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, December 1, 2023.

Jim was born in Baxter Springs Kansas on July 26,1931 to parents Walter Ezekiel Van Horn and Jamie Adele Van Horn. He was a graduate of Baxter Springs High School and the University of Kansas.

Jim was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a compassionate, considerate, trusting and generous individual, exemplifying the best attributes of humanity.

He is survived by his daughter Nancy Bowen, son in law Brian Bowen, granddaughters Danielle Morris, Nicole Dobbins, Kristin Bowen, great grandchildren, Addison Bowen, Ryder Dobbins, Lyla Dobbins, Daxton Morris, nephew Gale Karber and nieces Glenna Murray, Janice Karber, Lou Anne Anderson and Mary Lynn Richardson. Friends Margie and Richard Alvarado, Irene and Jessie Garcia and Elizabeth and William Warner.

Doris Colley, her daughter Cheryl Meinhardt whom he cherished and was proud to call them family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Jamie Van Horn, wife Ginger Van Horn, sister Jean Karber, brother-in-law Eldon Karber.

A private burial will take place on December 13, at 2 p.m. at Baxter Springs Cemetery 166 West Ave, Baxter Springs.
