Jonathon “Jay” Elsten, 63, died at his home early Saturday morning July 6, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Born January 15, 1961, Jay was the son of Floyd Byron Elsten Sr. and Oma Jean (LaTurner) Elsten.
Jay grew up and attended school in Riverton. His career in Redi-Mix started at 14 years of age working for Joplin Cement in 1975 which led to his co-ownership and management of Associated Redi-Mix where he worked alongside his father and sister until he retired.
Jay met and married his wife Tracey (Cope) December 1, 1990. They were married for 33 years. To this union they were blessed with two children, Tristan Layne and Carissa Vivian. They were the light and life of their father. He was so very proud of his children and being able to see them grow up. It was something he was not sure he would be able to do.
Jay did not have many hobbies, but he loved to travel, ride his motorcycle, and get to unfathomable levels in Candy Crush. He bowled every Thursday night for upwards of 20 years. Jay loved attending his beloved KU Jayhawks Basketball games and Chiefs football games and NASCAR races.
Jay shared his life growing up with his sister, Liz, and his brother, Byron, with many wonderful memories of endless games of pinochle and summers on the lake.
Through his lifetime he met and made many friends. He loved to tease and had an easy way about him.
Jay was preceded in death by nephews Jim, Mike, and Dillon.
Survivors include his brother Floyd Bryon Elsten Jr. and his wife Annette; his sister Liz Webster and her husband Gary; his Aunt Sue; sister-in-law Brenda Valentine and her husband Lee; his brother-in-law and partner in crime Steven Cope and his wife Jeri; a special friend Jose B. Jay; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who were special to him also survive.
There will be a celebration of life at the Carl Junction Community Center Saturday, July 13 from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
