Kathleen Munkres

Kathleen “Kitty” Maurice Wolf Munkres 96, died Monday, October 2, 2023, at Wildwood Senior Living, in Joplin, Mo. Born August 28, 1927, in Grant City, Mo. Kitty was the daughter of Hollis Bates Wolf and Leah Maurice (Boll) Wolf. They preceded her in death. Kitty was also preceded in death by her husband Warren in December of 2003; and sisters, Mary Combs and Clara Ellen Fisher.

Kitty graduated from Grant City, Mo. high school. She attended Central Missouri State College at Warrensburg, Mo.

Kitty and Warren Munkres were united in marriage June 23, 1946 at her home in Grant City, Mo. To this union two sons were born, Edward Wolf Munkres and David Wolf Munkres.

Kitty enjoyed making friends and experiencing new things in life, this was exciting to her. She had a lifelong love of music, nature and church. Kitty enjoyed retirement from Sears Roebuck and Co. in March of 1978 where she served 20 years as credit authorizer in Warrensburg, Mo. Kitty and Warren later moved to Lake of the Ozarks in June of 1978, where they lived for 20 years. In July 1998 another move was made to Galena to be closer to her son. Kitty served on several committees and was president of United Methodist woman for several years. She was also a member of B.T. P.E.O and was a 68year member in 2011. She held several offices during the years.

Kitty is survived by two sons, David Munkres (wife Evelyn) of Galena and Edward Munkres (wife Young Ae) of Clarksville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 7 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Kitty has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation.
