Naomi R. Carter, 75, Chetopa, died the afternoon of Sunday, September 14, 2025, at her home.
Born July 21, 1950, Naomi Ruth Strickland was the daughter of Elmer and Thelma (Lindsey) Strickland in Oswego. She grew up and attended school in Oswego, graduating from Oswego High School in 1968.
Naomi and Clyde Andrew “Andy” Carter were united in marriage January 30, 1970. The couple made Chetopa their home for over 34 years.
For many years, Naomi provided care for many children. Most of the children in her loving care knew her as NaNa.
She was a longtime and active member of the First Baptist Church of Chetopa, where she attended weekly Bible study and helped coordinate luncheons for funerals and other church gatherings.
Known for her loving and caring nature, Naomi loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings.
Survivors include husband Andy Carter of the home; son John Carter and his wife, Loretta, of Kentucky; daughter Marsha Moses and her husband, Dusty, of Oswego; three grandchildren DeLisa Harms and her husband, Jake; Nick Moses and his wife, Brittany; and Josh Carter and his wife, Hailey; three great-grandchildren Jentry and Jett Harms; and Rynlee Moses; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 18, at the First Baptist Church of Chetopa. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
