Phillip Dean Smith, 73, Oswego, died September 8, 2025. Born August 22, 1952 in Oswego, Phillip was the son of Homer Smith and Virginia Barker Smith.
Phillip grew up helping his father on Frank Farris’ farm. In 1972 he joined the U.S. Navy and spent the next four years serving his country aboard the USS Voge in the Mediterranean Sea. He retired from the City of Oswego, in 2014 with twenty- nine years of service.
He married Yolondo Rice in 1974, they later divorced. To this union they had three children, James, Billy and Laurie. In 1991 he married Anna Carol Watson they were married for thirty years. She preceded him in death in 2022.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Breakencamp.
Survivors include two sons, James Smith and wife, Karen and Billy Smith and wife, Stephanie; one daughter, Laurie Beye; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service will be held September 18, at 11 a.m. in the Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego.
