Sarah Lou Freeman

Sarah Lou Freeman, 80, Commerce, Oklahoma, died Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo.

Born September 5, 1943 in El Paso, Texas, Sara was the daughter of Shelby and Thelma (Miller) Jones. She had lived in the Commerce, Bluejacket and Picher, Oklahoma areas most of her life and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Pittsburg State University.

Sarah was a member of First Baptist Church in Commerce, Oklahoma. She taught school in Columbus and in Commerce, Oklahoma for over 20 years.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Henry and Linda Moudy.

Survivors include her husband Billy Don Freeman of the home; two sons, Billy Freeman, Jr. and wife Deidra of Afton, Oklahoma and Scott Freeman and wife Shelly of Commerce, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Brett Freeman, Lucas Freeman and Baillie Freeman and one great grandchild, Grayson Freeman.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 22, at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK. Dr. David Sawyer will officiate. Interment was in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma with Brett Freeman, Lucas Freeman, Christopher Parker, Johnnie Freeman, Bill Henry and Jeremy Barton serving as pallbearers.
