Verl R. Brownewell, 70, of rural Mound Valley, died Thursday, November 2, 2023, at his home.
Born March 26, 1953, in Oswego, Verl was the son of Earl and Fayrene (Bircher) Brownewell. He grew up and attended school in the Mound Valley area, graduating from Labette County High School in 1971.
For a time, he was a transport driver for the United States Postal Service. He had also worked at Quality Motors as a car detailer for many years.
He was a lifelong member of the Mound Valley Christian Church.
Verl enjoyed working on, tinkering with and renovating cars. He also enjoyed woodworking and listening to music.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Verl and Sandra Mary Kolofsky were united in marriage. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: a son, David Brownewell and his wife, Missy, of Mound Valley; Two grandchildren, Dusty Lynn Brownewell and James R. Brownewell; brother Claude R. Brownewell and his wife, Colleen, of Parsons and a sister Earlena McKee and her husband, Alan, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m., Friday, November 10, 2023 at the Mound Valley Cemetery.
