Amber Marie (Baugh) Clagg, 42, Riverton, died at her home in Riverton at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024. She fought a hard battle with cancer for two and a half years. Born on base at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Ala., June 21, 1981, Amber was the daughter of Paul J. Baugh, Jr.

Eugene Edward Ewers, 80, Carl Junction, Missouri, died January 8, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Born March 7, 1943 in St. Paul Neb., Gene was the son of Paul and Bernice (Burkman). He graduated from St. Paul High School and embarked on a lifelong career in the manufacturing industry.

Donald “Dean” Mc-Gown, 90, Frontenac, former longtime resident of Girard and McCune areas, died at 8:29 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Pittsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburg. Born August 13, 1933, in McCune, Dean was the son of Clyde McPherson and Gladys Elizabeth Mullen McGown.

John Scott Gibson, 76, Riverton passed away January 9, 2024 at his home. Born April 16, 1947, John was the son of Clifford and Ann (Anderson) Gibson. John grew up in Chanute. He graduated from High school and attended two years at Neosho County Community College in Chanute.

Jeanne L. Mattes, 98, formerly of Joplin, died Thursday, January 4, 2024 in Springfield, Missouri. Born April 24, 1925 in Baxter Springs, Jeanne was the daughter of the late Homer and Thelma (Riseling) Galyon. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1943 and married John T. Mattes in 1947.

Rena M. Miller, 84, Baxter Springs, a book keeper, died Wednesday January 3, 2024 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. Born April 2, 1939 in Harrisonville, Mo., Rena was the daughter of Wayne and Opal Leslie.

Belva Smith

In addition to her husband and parents Belva was preceded in death by a brother, Omer Twitty. Belva graduated from Monett High School in 1950 with 15 college credit hours. She went on to attend SMS College in Springfield, Mo. and graduated in three years with a degree in elementary education.

Omadine Hoyer

Omadine Hoyer, 99, Frontenac, died Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. Born December 16, 1924 in Pittsburg, Omadine was the daughter of the late Lester W. and Alice M. (Lawver) Roberds. She grew up on a farm near Asbury, Mo. raising over 4,000 chickens.
