Amazing grace! (How sweet the sound), That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see. -First Stanza of “Amazing Grace”

Amazing grace

The story behind the hymn “Amazing Grace” has been told often, including in the movie “Freedom” and in the biographical film “Newton’s Grace.” John Newton, the author of “Amazing Grace,” had been a slave trader who had a conversion experience in 1748.

Holidays good time to research genealogy

Genealogy CornerAs your family gathers together for the Easter celebration, it is a good time for genealogy sleuthing. Everyone is usually so busy but a holiday gives a good excuse for visiting and it is a perfect time to ask the older relatives about the family and their traditions.
“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:11-12 NIV

The long journey of discovery

We are unknown to ourselves in many ways, and experience is often the great teacher which shows us who we really are. When faced with difficult people we discover how patient we can be.

Reflections on the meaning of Easter

As Easter approaches I am always drawn to the parallels between Jesus’ resurrection and the rebirth that we see in nature during the Spring season.
