Charles and Margaret McColm will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Thursday, April 1. Charles McColm and Margaret McGown were united in marriage on Easter Sunday in 1956 in the United Chapel Church north of McCune.

Members of the Mike Carpino Ford team served up their best chili recipes at the VFW chili cookoff held recently. Jay Wary, Jim Biggerstaff and Dillon Roberts vied for bragging rights. Other teams participating were the VFW and Crossland Construction.

LCS Bears take MCL championship

Life Christian’s Junior Division (age 12 and younger) team outdistanced two other schools Saturday at Ottawa to take the Midstates Christian League Music and Arts Championship for the second year in a row.

Bunco games continue

Twenty-two bunco players attended the March 23 games. Including a newcomer, Brenda Boyd. Winners included Maedeen Back with the most wins; Marilyn Morris with the most losses; Barbara Poor with the most Buncos and Rosalie Peterson had the last Bunco.

Several people have called this week concerned for their hollies and other evergreen shrubs, noticing that the leaves are presenting with dry, crispy margins and tips, and excessive leaf drop. The reason for this? The leaves are sweating.

All hands were on deck at the annual First United Methodist Church baked potato feed. Workers kept things running smoothly March 19 as orders came in for the potatoes with toppings. This year the event was drive by or carry out.

Academic, musical and athletic excellence are all characteristics Dixee Lacen strives to achieve. Lacen has been named the Columbus Lions Club Lion of the Month for March. In addition to being a member of the LEO Club, Lacen has accomplished what very few high school athletes have achieved.

CUHS students earn Pitt State scholarships

Pittsburg State University has announced that two Columbus Unified High School students have been awarded PSU Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarships. Hannah Andrews is planning to major in Early Childhood Education. Her parents are Shawn and Tracy Andrews of Columbus.
