Scherenschnitte is a paper cutting art form. It was known to the ancient Chinese and others, and it became popular again in the early 1800s, especially in the Pennsylvania area. A group of the pictures were sold at folk art auctions in New England about 2011 to 2019.

The Lions Club annual bean feed looked a bit different this year. Meals were drive thru or carry out only, but the club still had a good turnout. Regina Jameson dipped soup into the to go containers Thursday afternoon.

There is a change of venue for the annual First United Methodist Church baked potato feed. This year the event will be carry out and delivery only and will be held at the Parish Hall located at 129 N. Kansas Lunch will begin 10 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m. For a $6 donation.

Recently members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department participated in an axe throwing competition organized by the Columbus Fire Department. The Sheriff’s Department was represented by Preston Hosier, Nate Jones, Terry Clugston, Joel Zwahlen David Groves, Jornell Fondren and Steven Harper.

Pittsburg State University has announced that Andrew Coberley has been awarded the PSU Alumni Legacy License Plate Scholarship. Coberley is currently a senior at Columbus Unified High School and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering Technology with an emphasis in Bio-Medical.
