Celebrate Christmas in Columbus

Come and help the Columbus Chamber of Commerce kick off the Holiday Season, by coming out and participating in the Christmas Celebration. Anyone wishing to have a booth on the square is welcome to set up by advising the Chamber office. There is no charge for the space.

Educator Hall of Fame seeks nominees

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce is asking for nominations for the “Education Hall of Fame” award. The award honors educators who have made an impact on the lives of their students, in the field of education and/or in their communities and whose work and accomplishments need to be recognized.

Holiday parade planned November 29

The Columbus Annual Christmas Parade is Wednesday evening, November 29. Santa has been contacted and he plans on being in the parade, which will begin at 7 p.m. Line up can begin around 6 p.m. on either side of Vermont or on Maple St. between Vermont and High School.

Chamber encourages downtown decorations

The retail committee is encouraging businesses to light up Columbus and let us be a “Hallmark Christmas town” during the Holiday season by decorating their windows and building. The public is invited to vote on their favorite decorations.

Smith is November Lion of Month

Columbus Lions Club has named John Smith as the Lion of the Month for November. Smith, a senior at Columbus High School is a member of LEO Club, HOSA and Student Council. A talented musician, Smith is involved in band, choir, a member of Tri-M and is an active participant in musicals and concerts.

History of Baxter schools presented at PEO meeting

A special program on the history of the first schools in Baxter Springs was presented at the November 6 P.E.O. Chapter BT of Baxter Springs meeting. The group met at noon in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Linda Crotts and Alma Cook.

Columbus woman wins photo contest

A Columbus resident has two winning photos in the The Kansas Department of Agriculture announced the winners of the 2023 KDA Photo Contest. Katey Freeman was recognized for her first place and second place photo on KDA’s Facebook page this month.
