Plans underway for Columbus Day Festival

The Columbus Day committee spends a whole year putting the festival together and inquiries about vendor space start coming in by February. The committee is accepting 2023 vendor space applications. Several food and craft vendors have already registered.

March winds plus April showers equals May flowers. This is what I have been told. We had March winds. In April we had 2.4 inches of rain. We don’t expect too many flowers in May. Right now, the flowerbed is growing weeds. Hopefully, we will have something colorful by the end of May.

A going away party held Friday for Betha Elliott as she leaves her post at Cherokee County Heath Department director after 36 years with the department. Attending the party were Carolyn Miller, retired administrator at the Montgomery County Health Department and Debbi Baugher, retired director of the Labette County Health Department. The three long time friends have all retired in the same year.

Chapter BT PEO hears about Cowtown Days

In anticipation of Cowtown Days weekend, the Monday, May 1 meeting of Chapter BT of P.E.O. International used that as the theme. The tables were decorated with cowboys, horses, boots, and cows.

A former Columbus resident, Bruce J. Robinson, is graduating with a Law Degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Graduation is scheduled for May 12. Robinson is the son of Jannell Robinson of Columbus and has a brother, Rob Mikowlski of Galena.
