Area students receive Heisman scholarships

The Heisman Trophy Trust announced the 2022 school winners for the Heisman High School Scholarship. Three area students have been selected. Malia Vinson was selected from the Southeast High School. Michael Shepard and Jacy Thomasson from Riverton High School were both selected.

Employees at the Cherokee County Courthouse dressed up for Halloween. Some were characters from the Flintstones others dressed in 80’s attire. They were greeted by trick or treaters from area day cares and preschools. These youngsters were happy to get some candy

Christmas celebration rapidly approaching

The Christmas Celebration committee and members of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce have announced plans for the annual Christmas Celebration. The Christmas Celebration will be Wednesday evening, November 30. Santa has been contacted and he plans to be in the parade, which will begin at 7 p.m.

Two new members initiated into Baxter Chapter BT PEO

An initiation ceremony was held and two new members were welcomed into the Baxter Springs’ Chapter BT of the P.E.O. Sisterhood at the Monday, October 17 meeting held in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs.
