Cherokee County Deputies began investigating the theft of a 2009 Mercedes passenger car east of Baxter Springs Wednesday morning. Just after 3 p.m. the same day, the vehicle was located by Newton County, Missouri Sheriff’s Deputies.
The suspect fled from Missouri authorities, back into Kansas, where the driver fled on foot into a wooded area just south of the K26 / US 166 Junction.
Newton County and Cherokee County Deputies pursued the suspect and captured him a short time later
Ṡterling Bryce Peppers, age 42, was taken into custody and transported to the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center on allegations of being a criminal in possession of a firearm, obstruction of justice and driving while suspended.
Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
