Smith scholarships awarded

Over the past nine years, Columbus First United Methodist Church has presented $37,950 in scholarships. These scholarships were made possible through the generosity of Starr and Eugenia Smith, who were interested in young people and their education.

The Labette Bank Golden Adventure Club recently traveled to Branson, Mo. to attend the inspiring musical David at the Sight & Sound Theatre. Before the per- formance, club members enjoyed a delicious plated lunch at McFarlain’s Restaurant and spent time shopping at the Tanger Outlets.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Charles McQuillin, 87, was arrested Saturday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of aggravated assault and interference with law enforcement officer; obstruct or resist and is being held without bail.

Sometimes nature is the best designer for furniture pieces

Think of wooden furniture, and most of us picture defined shapes, even lines, and symmetry. Of course, that isn’t always the case. Historically, wood was left with uneven live edges when furniture was made quickly out of necessity, not as a design choice.
