PEO groups gather together for meeting

There was a joint meeting of Chapter AB of Galena and Chapter BT of Baxter Springs Tuesday, June 9 in Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs. Members shared a luncheon with Chapter AB bringing salads and Chapter BT serving desserts.

LCC honor students named

The following fulltime students have been honored for their academic achievements for the Spring 2026 semester at Labette Community College. Students enrolled in at least twelve hours of courses and earned a 4.0 grade point average are listed on the President’s Honor Roll.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Rusty Dale Burton, 45, was arrested Thursday by Galena Police officers on charges of use or possess drug paraphernalia for use in the human body and interference with law enforcement officer; obstruct or resist and is being held in lieu of $3,000 bail.

Keith Storm fundraiser Saturday at Eagles

A pool tournament and dinner fundraiser for Keith Storm will be held at the West Mineral Eagles Saturday, June 27. Storm has been diagnosed with bladder cancer and is receiving radiation treatments. All proceeds will be given to help with expenses.

The award is presented to exemplary young citizens who have demonstrated a marked respect for country, assumed responsibility for improving school and community and has shown reverence for life. The award includes a $1,000 scholarship.

Motorists in Weir were expecting traffic delays on Wednesday that never came.Kansas Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that replacement of an under-road drainage pipe approximately one mile east of K7 highway, scheduled to begin June 24, has been delayed until July 1.
