Girl injured in Galena shooting

A 17-year-old girl sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in rural Galena just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 19. Law enforcement officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to a rural residence outside of Galena.

Cassidy Dawn Schoonover, 38, was arrested Wednesday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of theft by deception and was released on $595 bail.
The Columbus VFW Auxiliary donated toys to the Columbus Fire Department Shop with a fireman campaign. Firefighter Juston Grafel accepted the toys for the Columbus Fire Department. Peggy Britt president of the VFW Auxiliary gave the toys to the Fire Department because they were no longer have their kids Christmas Party. Jim Oberbeck Commander of the Columbus VFW Post attended the exchange.

Quilts delivered by sewing group

Nearly 50 quilts and blankets were delivered to Medicalodges of Columbus last week by the Cherokee County Catholics, knitting, crocheting and sewing group. “We just decided this was a project we could do before Christmas,” said Karen Langerot. “That would be appreciated and worthwhile.”
