Health fair comes to EXPO

Something new is happening for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO for 2023. A Health Fair providing information on what is available in Cherokee County and Columbus has been added.

Aggravated assault charges filed against Shawnee Mission man

Formal charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon have been filed against an 18-year-old Shawnee Mission man.

Kennedy Emanul Reyes, 18, was arrested Sunday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of burglary; vehicle or other means of conveyance and is being held without bail. Seth Eugene Carter, 23, was admitted to the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center Friday on a court ordered commitment.

Labette County Jail Report

Diann Louise Gallup, 66, was arrested Thursday by Oswego Police officers on charges of disorderly conduct and is being held in lieu of $398.50 bail.

Veterans, first responder appreciation lunch set

Next Monday, September 11, Patriot Day gives all Americans time to reflect on the devastating terror attacks that took nearly 3,000 lives. Commemorating those lost and giving thanks to the brave first responders who put their lives on the line.

Annual fly-in planned

The annual Fly-In at Bob Carpenter Field at the Oswego Airport will be held Saturday, September 16. The Oswego Municipal Airport is located 11 miles west of Columbus. Three miles east of Oswego. The annual event offers the opportunity to see small aircraft up close and talk to the pilots.

Special Columbus neutral rate hearing tonight

A special hearing will be held before the Columbus City Council tonight to answer taxpayers’ questions about the Revenue Neutral Rate. State law requires all taxing entities of government, except the State, to explain to voters why there is an increase in the property taxes over the previous year.

Football contest winners

Southeast Kansas High School Football kicked off the season with an opening night of upsets. Contest entries found the Riverton manhandling of Galena and Baxter Springs crushing Southeast less surprising.
