The Grand Champion Sheep and the 2023 Cherokee County Fair was shown by Kynlee Sommer, a member of the Spring Valley Sparklers 4-H Club. She received a premium of $1,200 from Sally Davis Real Estate. There were nine sheep in the sale and they drew a premium of $8,500.

County office holders and department heads were instructed to keep more complete records on purchases with the county credit cards during the Commissioners meeting Monday. All department heads were called to a meeting during the regular session of the board.

Boil order remains in effect for Weir

The City of Weir is currently under a boil order for drinking water caused by a break in a distribution line. The leak has been repaired and the tower in filling and the test has been forwarded to the laboratory for testing.

Discussions have been opened between the Columbus Recreation Commission and the USD 493 School Board to install artificial turf on the Community baseball and softball infields.

By unanimous acclamation the committee men and women of the Cherokee County Republican Central Committee elected Kurt Benecke as the new Cherokee County Attorney. Benecke has been serving as the Assistant County Attorney for just under six years.
