Donald Wayne Leas, 76, of Galena, died at 12:22 a.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Galena Nursing Center following an illness. Born May 7, 1946, in Joplin, Mo., Don was the son of Floyd Daniel and Crystal Daphine (Fisher) Leas. He had lived in Galena most of his life.
Don attended Galena High School. He later served two years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He then began working at Doane’s Food Products and retired after 25 years in 1995 as a foreman.
Don attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Baxter Springs where he had served as Elder. He enjoyed camping and boating on the lakes and making trips to Branson, Mo.
Don and Utona Sue Wammack were united in marriage September 19, 1968 in Columbus. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his daughter, Connie Sue O’Kelley (husband, Lance), of Galena; brother, Calvin David Leas, of Weston, Mo.; one sister, Kathy Brand, Galena; three grandchildren, Staci Lynne O’Kelley, Kelsey Kay Barnes and Crysta Leah O’Kelley; and three great-grandchildren, Myles Jacob Schowengerdt, Aspen Barnes, and Hunter Lee Barnes.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gary Ray Leas, and one grandson Cooper Lee Schowengerdt.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 22, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, in Baxter Springs. The speaker will be Wes Makela.
Don was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, for cremation.
