Cathy Lynn (Coble) Gurnee, age 62, of Columbus died at 2:56 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in St. Louis Missouri following a stay in Freeman West Hospital, in Joplin Mo. before being transferred to St Louis. Her death was unexpected. Born March 11, 1960 , Cathy was the daughter of Robert “Bob” Coble and Margaret “Peggy” (Hamilton) Coble. She grew up in Columbus. She was a graduate of Columbus Unified High School with the class of 1978.
Cathy worked at Weston’s accounting and H & R Block during high school and later at Stanley Bank. She also worked at Winfield Grocery Store, Ace Electric and most recently at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandson. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, trying new recipes and growing her own vegetables. At family gatherings, she was known for making beautiful and delicious vegetable trays and salads. She will be remembered for her laugh and bringing joy to others with her smile.
Cathy and the love of her life, Shane Gurnee were united in marriage September 18, 1980 in Winfield. He preceded her in death February 11, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her father, Bob Coble.
Cathy is survived by two sons, Shane Gurnee II (fiancé Jennifer Graham), of Arma and Skyler Gurnee, of Elsworth; her mother, Peggy Coble, of Columbus; brother, Rick Coble, of Carl Junction, Mo.; and sister, Cheryl Reed (Delvin), of Altamont. Her grandson, Adam Gurnee; her father -in-law, Jack (Barbara) Gurnee, of Oswego, two brothers-in-law, Jake Gurnee (Cheryl), of Columbus, and John Gurnee (Monica), of Oswego; two sisters-inlaw, Shelly Keener (Jeff), of Webb City, Mo. Trish Shuler (Roger), of Joplin Mo. along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, October 28 at Derfelt Funeral Home, in Columbus. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 29, at McKee Cemetery, in rural Columbus.
