Gordon H. Smith, 77, of Galena, died at Leisure Homestead in Stafford, Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Born July 9, 1945 at Cassville, Mo., Gordon was the son of Oscar and Grace (Henbest) Smith. They preceded him in death.
Gordon graduated from Wichita North High School with the Class of 1963. Shortly after graduation, he began his service in the ºUnited States Army, serving for just over seven years and earning the rank of Sergeant. He returned to Galena where he began working for the City of Galena. During his career, he held several positions including the Water and Sewer Dept, Landfill Operator, Animal Control Officer, Roads and Streets Dept, Backhoe Operator, and all-around jack of all trades. He retired from the City in 2008. He enjoyed participating in car cruises with the Outlaw Cruisers Car Club of Galena.
Gordon and Alleen Schmitz were united in marriage April 9, 1974 in Belton, Texas. She preceded him in death December 19, 2009. He was also preceded in death by two daughters Cristy Cammarn and Shelly Decker.
Gordon is survived by one son Steven (Tara) Smith; ten grandchildren Lacey, Brittany, Leah, Kyle, Sheldon, Cory, Colton, Crista, Emma, and Easton; and six great grandchildren, Talon, Aaron, Ian, Bryce, Micah, and Lakota.
