Ruby Ellen LaTurner, age 91, of Galena, died at 10:22 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, following an illness.
Born February 9, 1932, in Rural Jasper County, Mo., Ruby was the daughter of Ezra Julian and Thelma Lorraine (DeHaven) Talley.
Ruby became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked several years at Baxter Memorial Hospital, Baxter Springs and retired when the hospital closed. She later worked at Barker’s Rest Home in Galena for several years. Her Hobbies included crocheting, square dancing, and shopping. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas.
Ruby was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Galena.
Ruby and Bobby Joe LaTurner were united in marriage October 5, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death October 6, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Talley, two sisters, Edith Terry and Lavon Olds, one granddaughter, Billie Griesmer, one great-grandson, Zachary Griesmer, and one son-in-law, Mike Hall.
Survivors include four sons, Rick LaTurner (Barbara) and Mark LaTurner, both of Galena, Chris LaTurner, Baxter Springs, Thom LaTurner (Shelley) Scammon; two daughters, JoEllen Hall, Baxter Springs, and Janet Russell (David) Galena; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren also survive.
Rosary prayer service was at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena. The family received friends following.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galena. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena.
